A throng of tourists explored the lighthouse and a few ventured down to the rocks that crawl in ribbons to the ocean. I heard a tale that day of a man who got swept off the rocks by a rogue wave. By the time they reached him he had perished from the bitter cold water. There is always something menacing about the surf at Pemaquid Point even on the calmest days.
