Rothschild & Concha Y Toro, Almaviva other_regions_italyHere are the markers of Maipo in a cooler vintage (90% of grapes were harvested in May) still rich and exotic with gentle spice, brambly blackberry fruits, toasted coffee beans, but balanced by a sense of elegance and lift with liquorice root notes. It's not as intense as the bigger vintages but is beautifully precise, making it great for drinking over the next few years. Includes a touch of Petit Verdot for the first time.

This is impressive in its fashion though it’s a bit too ripe for me

and you feel its silky effects on the palate for many minutes

The linear backend is clearly in need of time to flesh out but the underlying material is clearly here to allow that to happen
